Thirty-eight female junior high and high school students and their guardians gathered at Yagami Campus, home to Keio’s Faculty of Science and Technology, on Friday, August 21, 2026, for “Girls Meet STEM 2026.” The event featured a tour of campus facilities and an interactive discussion with faculty members and current Keio students on the future and its vast and exciting possibilities. This year marked the fourth installment of the event and the third co-hosted with the Yamada Shintaro D&I Foundation.

Touring Campus: A real look inside the world of STEM studies
The event kicked off with an introduction of the Faculty of Science and Technology and an overview of the faculty’s academics and research.

Event participants were then split into groups and taken on student-led tours of Yagami Campus featuring the Yagami Innovation Laboratory (YIL), an innovation hub used by students to socialize, study, and present their research. The tour included three stops within the 34th Building—the chemistry lab, the Manufacturing Center, and the 50th-anniversary Yagami Campus wall art—as well as the Media Center for Science and Technology (the campus library).

Discourse and Exchange: Imagining life as a future Keio student
Concluding in a roundtable with faculty in attendance, Keio students gave an inside look into their everyday student lives and their studies at the Faculty of Science and Technology, sharing their wealth of experiences through stories about their extracurricular activities, study abroad, and research.

Event participants were quick to ask questions about university classes and research, university exam preparations, choosing a department, and life as female students. The atmosphere of the roundtable was warm and welcoming throughout, providing an opportunity for participants to learn from current students’ experiences and ask questions directly.

Empowering a Diverse Generation of Future Scientists and Engineers
The Faculty of Science and Technology prides itself as a place that brings together people with diverse backgrounds and interests to inspire and learn from each other. We will continue to support young people with an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) through initiatives such as these to encourage them to take the next brave step towards becoming future leaders in science and technology.
