On January 14, 2026, the Faculty of Science and Technology held a mochi-making event on the ground floor and oval atrium of the 14th building at Yagami Campus.

Approximately 260 international students* from 34 countries and regions are studying at Yagami Campus. This event started in AY2024, offering international students the opportunity to experience Japanese culture and traditions with the community of Keio University.

A total of around 400 students, faculty, and staff members participated in the event, chanting “Yoisho” as they pounded steamed rice until it formed into mochi “cakes” that they then ate fresh with other attendees. Participants also came along with colleagues from their laboratories, as they had been waiting for a whole year since the last event. The event had an impressive turnout, that the supply lasted only an hour or so.
